MSI PIs Receive Research Grants from Minnesota Partnership
Four MSI PIs are among the recipients of the 2023 research grants from the Minnesota Partnership for Biotechnology and Medical Genomics. These grants are given to project collaborations between researchers at the U of M and the Mayo Clinic. The projects with MSI PIs are: Minnesota Functional Omics Resources (MNFORce)
Improving Care for the Elderly
An article in the Winter 2024 Minnesota Alumni magazine features MSI PI Tetyana Shippee (professor, Health Policy and Management). Professor Shippee studies nursing homes and assisted living facilities with the goal of improving service to the elderly, especially those in the BIPOC community.
MSI PIs Named to Academies of Excellence
Four MSI PIs have been named to the 2023 class of inductees to the U of M’s Academies for Excellence. This honor recognizes outstanding faculty in scientific research, education scholarship, clinical practice, and team science. The MSI PIs are: Academy for Excellence in Health Research
Investigating Treatments for ALS
A research team including MSI PI Christophe Lenglet (associate professor, Radiology; Center for Magnetic Resonance Research) has received grants from the Food and Drug Administration and the State of Minnesota Office of Higher Education to continue research into developing a reliable method of assessing changes in patients with amyotophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) in order to evaluate different treatments.

Furthering Autonomous Vehicle Technology
MSI PI Zhi-Li Zhang (professor, Computer Science and Engineering; Center for Transportation Studies (CTS)) has received a $4.25 million, five-year grant from the National Science Foundation for a project that aims to advance autonomous-vehicle technology. The work involves an interdisciplinary team including researchers at the U of M, the University of Michigan, the Minnesota Department of Transportation, and several industry partners.
January 2024 Maintenance
On Wednesday, January 3, 2024, MSI staff will perform scheduled maintenance and upgrades to various MSI systems. During this month’s scheduled maintenance period, primary storage, Mesabi, Mangi, and Agate will be unavailable throughout much of the day. A global system reservation will start at 5:00 a.m. on January 3, 2024. Jobs that cannot be completed before 5:00 a.m. on January 3, 2024 will be held until after maintenance and then started once the system returns to production status.
