On Wednesday, December, from 4am – 4pm, MSI staff will perform scheduled maintenance and upgrades to the network and various systems.
Maintenance during this period will impact the following systems:
The annual supercomputing conference, SC15, was held the week of November 16-20, 2015 in Austin, Texas. MSI participated in one of the sub-meetings, a “Birds of a Feather” meeting on Ceph in HPC Environments.
Several organizations discussed how they use Ceph to address issues associated with big data and data-intensive research. Jim Wilgenbusch and Ben Lynch of MSI gave presentations; other organizations who presented included Red Hat, Intel, CADRE, MIMOS Berhad, and the University of Alabama.
Three MSI Principal Investigators are among the University of Minnesota faculty featured in the U’s latest Driven to Discover campaign. Drive to Discover highlights how researchers are the U are benefitting the State of Minnesota and the world. The MSI PIs appearing in this year’s campaign are:
Amy Kircher; Director, Food Protection and Defense Institute
Rendong Yang of MSI’s Research Informatics Solutions group recently received a Prostate Cancer Foundation Young Investigator Award. The awards are given to researchers who show potential for high-impact research. The awardees are mentored by leaders in the field of prostate-cancer research. Dr. Yang’s mentor is Associate Professor Scott Dehm of the Masonic Cancer Center.
Associate Professor Jennifer Powers, an MSI Principal Investigator from the Department of Ecology, Evolution and Behavior, is a co-author on a recent study that investigated how lianas – the vines that grow on trees in tropical forests – affect the ability of those forests to store carbon. The study was recently published online in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the USA. (Geertje M.F. van der Heijden, Jennifer S.
MSI PI Carol Cardona (Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences) is featured in the Fall 2015 issue of the University of Minnesota Foundation’s Legacy magazine. Professor Cardona uses MSI to support her group’s research into the mechanisms that underlie respiratory disease in fowl. She has provided expert assistance to the State of Minnesota and the Minnesota poultry industry in tracking the causes of the recent avian influenza epidemic.
Professor William Arnold, an MSI Principal Investigator in the Department of Civil, Environmental, and Geo- Engineering, is the lead researcher on a recently published study of water contaminants. The study involved a multinational team led by the University of Minnesota.
On Wednesday, November 9, from 4am – 4pm, MSI staff will perform scheduled maintenance and upgrades to the network and various systems.
MSI PI Kelvin Lim (Psychiatry) is featured in the Fall 2015 issue of the University of Minnesota Foundation’s Legacy magazine. Professor Lim uses MSI for research into brain function in people with alcohol and drug dependence, schizophrenia, traumatic brain injury, and epilepsy. This involves analysis of very large datasets.
