The National Institutes of Health has awarded MSI PI Samuel Myers, Jr. (professor, Humphrey School of Public Affairs; Director, Roy Wilkins Center for Human Relations and Social Justice) a grant of $417,000 to study racial disparities in deaths from drowning. This project will study whether public policies reduce drowning rates.
MSI PI Georgios Giannakis (professor, Electrical and Computer Engineering) has been elected as a 2023 International Fellow for the Royal Academy of Engineering. A ceremony was held on November 28, 2023, to formally admit the 73 new Fellows.
After almost 10 years of service, the Mesabi HPC system will be retired on June 5, 2024 to make room for the expansion of the Agate cluster. Mesabi is becoming increasingly expensive to maintain. This transition is part of our ongoing commitment to advance the research capabilities at the University of Minnesota and ensure our infrastructure aligns with the evolving needs of our community.  Important facts about this transition:
On Wednesday, December 6, 2023, MSI staff will perform scheduled maintenance and upgrades to various MSI systems. MSI’s storage, compute clusters, and front-end servers will be unavailable for some portion of the day. Reminder: any SLURM batch job submitted that has a time limit beyond the beginning of maintenance (5 a.m. Wednesday, December 6) will not be queued to start until after maintenance is completed.
