The University of Minnesota has received a grant from the Environmental Protection Agency to establish an Environmental Justice Thriving Communities Technical Assistance Center. A $10 million grant is being spread across six states to establish “one-stop shops” for rural, tribal, and underserved communities to get assistance accessing federal funding for energy and environmental improvement efforts. The U of M’s center will cover Minnesota and five other states.
MSI PI Fang Li (professor, Pharmacology; co-Principal Investigator, Midwest Antiviral Drug Discovery Center) has been named a Healthcare Hero by the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal.
MSI PIs Colin DeYoung (associate professor, Psychology) and Nicola Grissom (assistant professor, Psychology) have both received CLA Brain Imaging Grants for Spring 2023. These grants can be used for seed funding for projects or to purchase items for ongoing infrastructure needs.
In research published in February 2023, MSI PI Jian-Ping Wang (professor, Electrical and Computer Engineering) and colleagues at the U of M and the National Institute of Standards and Technology have created a new process for making spintronic devices. These devices are critical to the manufacture of semiconductor chips, which are necessary for consumer goods, including smartphones, cars, computers, and many other electronics.
The 2023 Research Computing Exhibition will be held on Tuesday, April 25.
The Exhibition includes a panel discussion about employment in high-performance computing, presentations about Research Computing, tours of the machine room, visualizations in the Viz Lab, and a judged poster session. Light refreshments will be served. The event is free and open to all.
Rare Disease Day was observed on February 28 in the medical community. The purpose of the day is to generate discussion about rare diseases, the people affected by them, and healthcare systems that treat them.
On Wednesday, April 5, 2023, MSI staff will perform scheduled maintenance and upgrades to various MSI systems. MSI’s storage, compute clusters, and front-end servers will be unavailable for some portion of the day.
A global system reservation will start at 5:00 a.m. on April 5. Jobs that cannot be completed before 5:00 a.m. on April 5 held until after maintenance and then started once the system returns to production status.
