2020 Distinguished McKnight University Professors

Four MSI PIs have been named Distinguished McKnight University Professors. This program recognizes outstanding faculty members who have recently achieved full professor status.

The MSI PIs on the list are:

  • Jeannine Cavender-Bares (Ecology, Evolution and Behavior)
    • Professor Cavender-Bares uses MSI resources for work that links the spectral reflectance data of plants at multiple scales to their functional traits in an evolutionary context, in order to develop better methods for remotely sensing many dimensions of plant biodiversity
  • Kevin D. Dorfman (Chemical Engineering and Materials Science)
    • Professor Dorfman uses MSI to develop and run simulations supporting research into a range of problems in polymer physics.
  • David Masopust (Microbiology and Immunology)
    • Professor Masopust is studying how changing housing for lab mice can introduce cell populations into the mice, profoundly impacting the cellular composition of their innate and adaptive immune systems, and causing them to be better analogues for the human immune system.
  • Angus W. MacDonald, III (Psychology)
    • Professor MacDonald uses MSI to study fMRI datasets and neuroimaging datasets as part of investigations into how psychological constructs and constellations of symptoms may be represented in the brain and reproducible across groups of individuals, which is a keystone element for furthering understanding on the mechanisms underlying mental illness.
