Keeping Water Tasty

Ecology and Environment

MSI PI Raymond Hozalski, a professor in the Department of Civil, Environmental, and Geo- Engineering, has been working with the cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul to help improve the taste and smell of their drinking water. While the water was safe, conditions in the water sources were creating “off” tastes and odors. A news feature from the College of Science and Engineering explains Professor Hozalski’s work and how it’s benefiting the citizens of Minnesota: Finding ways to make your water taste better.

Professor Hozalski uses MSI to support his research into bacterial biofilms in water systems, with a goal of learning how to control them. This research involves finite element modeling and Monte Carlo simulations that require the use of the supercomputers.
