MSI PIs were featured in a recent Minnesota Public Radio (MPR) story about how designers are developing ways to construct city neighborhoods in such a way that they will not create “heat islands,” where temperatures are higher than they are in surrounding areas. Tracy Twine and Peter Snyder, both associate professors in the Department of Soil, Water, and Climate, are coordinators of the Islands in the Sun project, which set out to better understand how heat islands form and to develop ways of mitigating their effects. This will be especially important as climate change causes increasing temperatures. Islands in the Sun was funded by the College of Food, Agricultural, and Natural Resource Sciences and the Institute on the Environment.
The story can be found on the MPR website.
