MSI PI Samuel Myers, Jr. (professor, Humphrey School of Public Affairs ; director, Roy Wilkins Center for Human Relations and Social Justice) was interviewed recently about his research into the Minnesota Paradox, which states that, while Minnesota is one of the best places to live for whites, it’s one of the worst, relatively speaking, for Blacks. Professor Myers sees a way for this disparity to be overcome. The interview can be found on the U of M News website: Unraveling the Paradox.
The Roy Wilkins Center has received a $50,000 grant from Thomson Reuters to fund a study into the disinvestment of Black nonprofits in the Twin Cities and to develop a plan to reverse the trend. A story about this grant appears on the Humphrey School website: Roy Wilkins Center Receives Grant to Research Black Nonprofits in Twin Cities.
Professor Myers is currently using MSI for two projects, an investigation into whether becoming a “benefits corporation” changes a firm’s net sales, and a study of Minnesota minimum wage policy.
