Two MSI PIs are among the recipients of grants from Regenerative Medicine Minnesota (BMM), an organization that funds research into regenerative medicine and chronic disorders.
- Assistant Professor Marija Cvetanovic (Neuroscience) is studying how different brain cells affect neurodegenerative diseases. Her group is especially interested in spinocerebellar ataxia type 1, a fatal, inherited disease of the cerebellum.
- Associate Professor Troy Lund (Pediatrics; Stem Cell Institute) uses MSI for a project to develop a better understanding of how oxidative stress affects erythroid progenitors and mitochondrial function. The BMM grant funds a project to improve the efficacy of bone-marrow transplantation
An article describing the research of all the grant winners appears in Twin Cities Business: Commercially promising stem cell research projects land state funding.
