MSI PIs Rendong Yang (assistant professor, Hormel Institute) and Scott Dehm (associate professor, Laboratory Medicine and Pathology; Masonic Cancer Center) have received a Department of Defense Prostate Cancer Research Program Idea Development Award to support research into genetic markers that might show how prostate cancer could progress. This project is a collaboration with researchers from the Mayo Clinic. An article appears on the Hormel Institute’s website: Dr. Rendong Yang Receives Major Prostate Cancer Research Grant.
Professor Yang uses MSI to develop novel computational tools for detecting mutations in the prostate cancer genome. Before joining the Hormel Institute, Professor Yang was a bioinformatics analyst at MSI.
Professor Dehm uses MSI for research into the role of the androgen receptor in prostate cancer development and progression. Research by his group was featured on the MSI website in January 2014: Fighting Prostate Cancer.
