Four of the spring semester’s Grand Challenge courses are being taught by MSI Principal Investigators. The Grand Challenge Curriculum is designed to bring a solution-driven, interdisciplinary approach to learning while addressing global issues.
- Professor Tim Griffis (Soil, Water and Climate) and Associate Professor Jennifer Powers (Ecology, Evolution, and Behavior; Plant Biology) are teaching Climate Change: Myths, Mysteries, and Uncertainties.
- Professor Linda Kinkel (Plant Pathology) is one of the instructors for Toward Conquest of Disease.
- Professor Sarah Hobbie (Ecology, Evolution, and Behavior; Fellow, Institute on the Environment) is one of the instructors for Policy and Science of Global Environmental Change.
- Professor Nicholas Jordan (Agronomy and Plant Genetics; Fellow, Institute on the Environment; Institute for Advanced Study) is one of the instructors for Making Sense of Climate Change – Science, Art, and Agency.

Edited to add: Minnesota Public Radio ran a story about this Grand Challenges Curriculum on February 24. Professor Jason Hill (Bioproducts and Biosystems Engineering), an MSI PI who taught one of the courses during the Fall 2015 semester, is quoted.
