The University of Minnesota recently announced new awardees to the McKnight Presidential Fellows Program. Four MSI PIs are included in the 2021 class. The McKnight Presidential Fellows Program is a three-year award given to exceptional faculty who have achieved tenure and promotion to associate professor in the past academic year.
The MSI PIs on the list are:
- Emilyn Alejandro (Integrative Biology and Physiology)
- Professor Alejandro uses MSI for genetic studies that will increase understand of and develop possible treatments for type 2 diabetes.
- Samira Azarin (Chemical Engineering and Materials Science)
- Professor Azarin uses bioinformatics resources at MSI to study the role of the cell microenvironment in development of healthy and diseased tissues for applications in regenerative medicine and cancer therapeutics.
- Trinity Hamilton (Plant and Microbial Biology)
- Professor Hamilton uses MSI resources to study the functions and interactions of microorganisms in natural and engineered systems and how microbial communities respond and adapt to environmental change.
- Esther Krook-Magnuson (Neuroscience)
- Professor Krook-Magnuson uses resources at MSI to support research that aims to understand neuronal circuits in health and disease.
