MSI PIs Lead Project to Improve Cities

Big Data Science

Two MSI PIs, Professor Shashi Shekhar (Computer Science and Engineering) and Professor Anu Ramaswami (Humphrey School of Public Affairs), are leading a multi-disciplinary team to develop “smart” infrastructure sectors in cities. This is an NSF-funded project that also includes researchers from Florida State University, the University of Washington, and Purdue University.

An article about this project can be found on the College of Science and Engineering website: University of Minnesota Secures $2.5 Million Grant to Improve Quality of Life in Cities.

Professor Shekhar studies megacities and the use of on-demand services. He uses MSI resources to develop algorithms that work with the huge datasets involved in the research. Professor Ramaswami uses MSI for studies relating to sustainable cities.
