Ecology and Environment

MSI PI Peter Reich (Regents Professor, Forest Resources; Fellow, Institute on the Environment) has been named to the prestigious National Academy of Sciences (NAS). This is one of the highest honors a scientist can receive. Membership is awarded based on outstanding contributions to scientific research.

An article about the researchers from the U who were elected to NAS membership appears on the U’s news site: Two UMN professor elected to the National Academy of Sciences.

The Reich group uses MSI resources for a project to develop a new kind of global land computer model. The new model will be based on a plant functional trait approach, as opposed to current models that use a plant function type approach.
