MSI PI Melania Figueroa (Plant Pathology) was recently awarded the 2018 Syngenta Award from the American Phytopathological Society. This award is presented for outstanding contributions to teaching, research, or extension in plant pathology.
Professor Figueroa uses MSI resources for projects that focus on host-pathogen interactions with the goal of improving crop protection strategies. The Figueroa group’s main focus is rust fungi, which are devastating pathogens of cereal crops such as oats and wheat.
