MSI PI Cari Dutcher Receives SERDP Project of the Year Award

Ecology and Environment

MSI PI Cari Dutcher (associate professor, Mechanical Engineering) has received the Strategic Environmental Research and Development Program (SERDP) Project of the Year Award for Weapons Systems and Platforms. This award recognizes scientific advances and technological solutions to significant environmental and installation energy challenges. The project that won the award, “Understanding Shipboard Oil/Water Emulsions Using Macro- and Micro-scale Flows,” will contribute to the prevention of contamination of oceans, lakes, and rivers by oily bilgewater. A story about Professor Dutcher’s research appears on the mechanical engineering department’s website: Cari Dutcher Receives the 2021 SERDP Project of the Year.

Professor Dutcher uses MSI’s computational resources to facilitate studies of chemical and physical phenomena in multiphase systems, including surfactant transport and droplet coalescence.
