Several MSI PIs are studying the brain and its development. Two of them, A. David Redish (professor, Neuroscience) and Esther Krook-Magnuson (assistant professor, Neuroscience), are featured in the Spring 2019 issue of Legacy magazine by the University of Minnesota Foundation. The article can be read on the Legacy website: Brain Explorers.
Professor Redish uses MSI resources to analyze neural activity as subjects (mice, rats, humans) perform complex tasks. The datasets generated are very large and the analysis is computationally intensive. Professor Krook-Magnuson is using MSI to support research into neuronal circuits in health and disease, including basic knowledge of different neuronal populations in neuronal networks, how brain regions communicate, and how this information can be used for better therapies.
