Dan Voytas Receives First Hackett Award

Genetics

MSI PI Dan Voytas (Genetics, Cell Biology and Development; Director, Center for Genome Engineering) has received the first award from the Hackett Fund for Genome Engineering. The award recognizes Professor Voytas’s work and leadership in the field of genome engineering. He uses MSI resources for high-throughput DNA sequencing. A story about this award appears on the College of Biological Sciences website.

An article about Professor Voytas appeared in the September 16, 2016 issue of Science.

The Hackett Fund was launched in the summer of 2016 by MSI PI Perry Hackett (Genetics, Cell Biology and Development) with royalties from a licensing deal for his Sleeping Beauty Transposon technology. Professor Hackett uses MSI for research related to the use of the Sleeping Beauty transposon. This research uses massive numbers of DNA sequences and relies on resources such as Galaxy.
