Combining Engineering and Brain Science to Treat Mental Illness

Brain Science

A story in the Spring 2022 issue of the University of Minnesota Foundation Discovery magazine features research by MSI PI Alik Widge (assistant professor, Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences). Professor Widge, who is a biomedical engineer as well as a clinical psychiatrist, is studying the use of deep brain stimulation as a way to improve mental function in patients with conditions such as severe anxiety. The story, which includes a video with Professor Widge, can be read on the magazine’s website: Circuit Override.

Professor Widge uses MSI resources for computational analyses of electrophysiologic studies of decision-making brain networks in rodents and humans.
