The Center for Sustainable Nanotechnology, a multi-institutional research center, has received a five-year, $20M grant from the National Science Foundation to continue their research. MSI PI Christy Haynes (professor, Chemistry) is associate director of the Center, and MSI PI Erin Carlson (associate professor, Chemistry) is a senior researcher. The Center studies how nanotechnology impacts the environment and living things. to A story about the Center appears on the U of M News website: NSF Awards $20M to Center for Sustainable Nanotechnology.
Professor Haynes uses MSI for computational work related to investigations to find polymers that could be used as capture agents for toxins found in crops. Professor Carlson is using computational methods to visualize how some newly identified compounds bind to proteins.
