The genetic analysis of this research is discovery driven and has direct applications. DNA sequence analysis of highbush cranberry is being used to design a genetic test to identify European (Eurasian) from American highbush cranberry. DNA sequence analysis of non-native knotweeds has identified the species and their hybrids. Future research will be used to describe the relationships among non-native bush honeysuckles to related taxa.
