Project Title:
Catalytic Deoxygenation Reactions

The Hoover group studies transition metal catalyzed organic transformations in order to understand and improve upove reactions relevant to current societal challenges, in particular those related to health, energy, and the environment. They are particularly interested in catalytic redox reactions in which bond-breaking and -forming steps occur along with oxidation or reduction steps. More specifically, they are interested in developing and understanding new catalytic decarboxylation and decarbonylation reactions for the efficient generation of value-added small molecules from abundant oxygenated precursors. In this realm, the group develops new organic reactions, synthesizes and characterizes organometallic intermediates, and measures reation kinetics to better understand these reactions and their mechanisms.
