Computational Fluid Dynamics Studies of Flow Reactors and Particle Formation

These researchers build flow reactor models and simulate flows and chemistry using Fluent. There are temperature differences in the experiment that drive convection. The overall flow is given by a certain mass flow rate of nitrogen gas where a trace amount of sulfuric acid vapor is entrained. A low vapor pressure acid, H2SO4, reacts with water vapor that is present at nominal humidities. Some simulations include the reaction of H2SO4 with volatile base species such as ammonia and dimethylamine. The researchers will also continue 3D modeling of flow reactor experiments on the photo-oxidation of alpha-pinene and of SO2.
