This group is interested in protective immune mechanisms mediated by CD8+ T cells and NK cells. They are additionally interested in models where this goes awry and immunopathology results from the actions of these cells. They are focused on examining particular subsets of CD8+ T cell memory primarily in mouse models of intentional infection or situations of physiologic microbial exposure such as the "dirty mouse" model. Some of the work on this topic is currently under review for publication and leads to future studies on particular effector mechanisms, molecules involved in metabolism and survival, chemokine receptors, etc. that were prevelant in the group's bulk and single-cell RNA sequencing experiments. NK cell work in a cerebral malaria model was published in 2018. The group's current focus is interpreting and following up on some of the key molecules that presented themselves in the datasets. Current work includes experiments on secondary memory T cells and additional tissues from the dirty mice.
