James W. (Jim) Ferguson joined MSI in December of 2020 as Assistant Director of User Services and the leader of the User Gateway Group.
Jim has served in user-facing roles at High Performance Computing centers for much of his career, including the National Center for Supercomputing Applications at the University of Illinois, the Joint Institute for Computational Sciences at Oak Ridge National Laboratory / University of Tennessee, and the OU Supercomputing Center for Education & Research at the University of Oklahoma. In addition to serving in various roles at two NSF-funded HPC Centers, Jim has also held leadership roles with NSF-funded projects including XSEDE, the National Laboratory for Applied Network Research (NLANR), and the Web100 Project.
Jim has served on the organizing committees for several years of the International HPC Summer School, as well as numerous other workshops and summer schools for XSEDE, NLANR, and at the institutions where he has worked. He has also served as a volunteer committee member (usually on the Infrastructure committee) for a dozen conferences in the SCxy series.
