Associate Professor Peter Kennedy

This research group studies microbial ecosystems, particularly in forest ecosystems. For this work, they do molecular-based identification of fungal and bacterial communities, utilizing traditional (Sanger) and modern (high-throughput) sequencing methods. They use MSI's supercomputers to analyze their datasets. In particular, their analyses involve de novo-based sequencing clustering, which is computationally intensive and so benefits from the core and processing power available through MSI.

The researchers are also doing comparative genomics and transcriptomics work that will benefit from access to the software and expertise available through MSI (e.g. Galaxy, Spotfire).
