Project Title:
Bioheat and Mass Transfer
The Bioheat and Mass Transfer Lab is dedicated to the study of thermophysical and biological changes within biomaterials after thermal manipulations (esp. heating or cooling). This work is broadly in the scientific fields of thermal biology, including cryobiology (low temperature biology) and hyperthermic biology, with particular focus in the following application areas:
- Cryopreservation and nanowarming
- Thermal contrast and lateral flow assay improvement
- Focal ablation and immunonotherapy in cancer treatment
- Multi-scale biophysical property measurement
Study of these complex disciplines requires analysis of multiphysics problems (heat transfer, electromagnetism, optics, diffusion, fluid flow, etc.) and processing of clinical image files, both of which require resources at MSI.
