Project Title:
Experimental Evolution of Biological Complexity

These researchers are investigating the molecular basis of a major evolutionary transition, the evolution of multicellularity, in experimentally evolved populations of microbes. They are using a diverse group of microorganisms, to compare and contrast different molecular mechansims across many species, which include Saccharomyces cerevise, Pseudomonas fluorescens, Escherichia coli, Chlamydomonas, Euploites, and Kluyveromyces lactis. The group's molecular investigations involve both RNA- and DNA-seq in order to make identifications of changes in gene expression and gene structure.
