Pluripotent stem cells have the potential to develop into many cell types, making them an attractive cell source for disease modeling and cell therapy. Nevertheless, some cell types are very difficult to produce in vitro. For example, the skeletal myogenic lineage cannot be spontaneously differentiated in vitro. These researchers plan to study the molecular underpinnings of how the skeletal myogenic lineage develops during embryogenesis and stem cell differentiation.
