This group's research in the area of process systems engineering lies at the intersection of chemical engineering and operations research. They focus on systematic decision making and the discovery of decision-making mechanisms in complex process systems. To that end, they develop mathematical models and algorithms capable of considering both continuous and discrete decisions, incorporating uncertainty, capturing the interaction of multiple agents, and solving large-scale real-world optimization problems.
This work is highly quantitative and interdisciplinary. The researchers apply tools to solve a wide range of problems of industrial and scientific relevance. In particular, they are interested in the design and operation of sustainable energy and process systems, advanced manufacturing, supply chain optimization, data analytics, and systems biology.
