Project Title:
Strongly Correlated Spin-Orbit Coupled Materials

These researchers study strongly correlated spin-orbit coupled materials such as iridates, ruthenates, and rhodates. These magnetic systems are currently of very broad interest both from the experimental and theoretical side, because they realize a wealth of unconventional quantum-mechanical phases of matter, like the celebrated topological spin-liquid. The goal of the group's numerical investigations is to determine the ground state properties (phase diagrams, correlation functions, ordering phenomena, etc.) and the excitation spectra of these systems based on minimal models that derive from microscopic first principles. For the study of these models they employ state-of-the-art, large-scale exact diagonalizations and Monte Carlo techniques.
