Shoulder pain is the second most common musculoskeletal complaint. Many of these disorders are cumulative trauma disorders, resulting from or causing abnormal movement patterns. This group seeks to understand the movement related mechanisms of shoulder pain, with a particular interest in the link between abnormal shoulder movement and rotator cuff disease. MSI resources are particularly useful for linking anatomical imaging data to motion data through 3D musculoskeletal models. Better knowledge of these mechanisms can inform more effective treatment and prevention programs, including both surgical and non-surgical treatment strategies.
