This research group operates at the intersection of chemical engineering and biotechnology, focusing on cell culture bioprocess engineering. Current projects involve utilizing a synthetic biology approach for adeno-associated virus (AAV) production in gene therapy, developing feeder-cell-free methods for natural killer cell production in immunotherapy, and conducting process modeling of Chinese hamster ovary cell culture for therapeutic protein production. Emphasizing the integration of -omics data in these projects, the researchers aim to comprehend time-course cellular responses at various system levels. Novel modeling approaches are explored to quantitatively describe cellular systems, and advanced computational tools in bioinformatics, systems biology, and machine learning are heavily employed to process and analyze -omics data, ultimately leading to the development of predictive models for the targeted systems.
