Project Title:
Disease-Causing Variant Identification in Horses and Beyond
The Akhurst lab is part of the University of Minnesota Equine Genetics and Genomics Laboratory. They investigate genetic diseases that are highly detrimental to horses and in many cases have translational potential as spontaneous models of human disease. This includes projects investigating cardiac arrhythmias and sudden cardiac death. The researchers are also interested in developing genomic tools to facilitate future research efforts and in developing guidelines for facilitating the development and use of genetic tests.
