This group has been utilizing Materialise Mimics to complete novel fracture morphology mapping studies. These allow the fractures of many different trauma patients to be digitally reduced, scaled, and superimposed onto a single representative anatomical model. This gives a better understanding of where fractures in a subset of patients typically occur, gives information on what the morphology may look like, and can allow for the development of better fixation techniques, hardware, and classification systems. So far, this mapping technique has been applied to the sternum, ribs, and pilon.
