This research will link genetic factors to individual differences among children in behavioral development including temperament, internalizing and externalizing behavior problems, depressive symptomatology, social withdrawal, social behavior, and cognitive processes. Children who have an increased potential to exhibit developmental difficulties in adjustment (maltreated children, children of depressed mothers) will be studied in order to examine the extent to which genetic differences contribute to behavioral variation among children above and beyond their exposure to major social risk factors.
