Project Title:
LC-MS-Based Metabolomic Investigation of Nutritional Events and Metabolic Disorders Induced by Diet and Chemical Exposure

Energy and nutrient metabolism, as the fundamental component of life, supports other bioactivities in humans and animals. Understanding the metabolic status in the whole body, tissue, cells, or subcellular compartments could provide mechanistic insights on the benefits or toxicities caused by specific diets, chemical treatments, and pathophysiological conditions. The traditional approach of targeted metabolite analysis is only capable of validating expected metabolic outcomes. The development of high-throughput metabolomics provides a new platform to define global changes and to identify unexpected events in the metabolic system. This project aims to expand the existing liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS)-based metabolomics platform in the Chen lab and utilize this technical platform to study the metabolic events induced by diet and chemical exposure.
