Project Title:
Developing Chemical Tools and Therapeutics

Broadly, this research group is a medicinal chemistry team focused on developing chemical tools that can be utilized to enhance the understanding of disease mechanisms and developing new therapeutic leads that exploit novel targets for the treatment of bacterial infections and retinal diseases. More specifically, they focus on three major areas:

  • Determining the biological significance and therapeutic potential of bacterial enzyme/pathway activation in bacteria
  • Understanding physicochemical parameters that influence small molecule permeation and accumulation in Gram-negative bacteria
  • Developing non-invasive (to the eye) small-molecule treatments for retinal diseases

The researchers integrate synthetic chemistry, chemical and structural biology, microbiology, and computational methods to drive this research.
